Students at Sahuarita High School were asked recently what they thought about administrators testing a new program this semester that sends text messages to parents' cellular phones if their children are marked absent from class.
"I think it's not a good idea. It takes less time just to call the parent and leave a message. Also, if people have parents like mine, they don't even know how to view the message. Another reason it's a bad idea: It costs a lot more money than a voice message."

"I think that this is a good thing … because if the student decides to skip a class while they're in school, their parents will be notified. So now the next time the student wants to skip class, he or she will think twice and they won't miss any class and they'll learn much more."

"I think this is a good idea because less people will ditch class because their parents will know if their kids aren't at school."

"I think it's a great idea for school administrators to send text messages to parents' cell phones because it lets the parent know if their child is ditching school. Not only that, it's less stress on the parents because they don't have to worry if their child went to school or not."
