What: The Mesquite Ranch Neighborhood Association has about 620 homes and no businesses and was registered with the city in 2005.
Boundaries: Bilby Road on the north; Pantano Wash on the east; Harrison Road on the west; Poorman Road on the south.
Challenges: Wildcat dumping. A gravel company that runs trucks along the neighborhood's boundaries. Parking and traffic violations. Vandalism.
Accomplishments: Community yard sale. Community clean-up. Participating in the Houghton Road Master Plan.
"We have met with the (city of Tucson's) director of transportation recently and are working with them to provide community input as to how they go about developing their plans for widening Houghton Road," said Randall Pierce, the association's president. "This case is not so much of a concern as a proactive group."

Pierce said there will likely be a lot of businesses coming into the neighborhood once Houghton Road is widened.
"We've also been able to increase the safety of the streets,'' he said of the neighborhood association's accomplishments. "Since we've become a neighborhood association, we've had a light put in at the intersection of Bilby and Houghton."
Meetings: Second Tuesday each month at 6:30 p.m. at Desert Sky Middle School, 9850 E. Rankin Loop.
