In-person classes at Kenmore East High School have been canceled through at least Nov. 13 due to an increase in cases of Covid-19, Sabatino Cimato, superintendent of the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda Union Free School District, announced in a statement Tuesday.
“This decision was made out of an abundance of caution, and resulting from the sudden uptick in confirmed Covid-19 cases involving and/or impacting our Kenmore East community,” he said.
All students will be temporarily taught online beginning Wednesday, Cimato said. Children in self-contained special education programs had been the only students attending in-person classes at Kenmore East this fall.
Wednesday’s classes will be asynchronous, Cimato said.
Beginning Thursday, all Kenmore East teachers will lead classes through synchronous remote instruction, interacting together at the same time.

Cimato noted that the Erie County Department of Health is conducting contact-tracing with all who have had close contact with those who tested positive.
He did not indicate the number of Covid-19 cases or whether they were students or staff.
