Headaches, migraines are focus of free lecture
The University of Arizona department of neurology, the UA College of Medicine and the Pima Council on Aging are hosting a public lecture next week titled “Headaches and Migraines: Symptoms, Treatment and Research.”
The free lecture is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Feb. 12 at the Jewish Community Center, 3800 E. River Road. It’s the first in the center’s monthly “Brain Matters in Neurology” lecture series.
Dr. Wendi Kulin, an assistant professor of neurology at the UA College of Medicine, will discuss issues in the treatment of headaches and migraines and what people should know about them.
Also at the lecture will be Adina Wingate, PCA’s director of public relations, to provide information about the resources available for people with severe headaches and migraines, as well as physical therapist Ken Lamm, who will discuss the techniques he uses to relieve pain for patients with migraines.

UA is recognized
for anti-suicide efforts
The New York-based Jed Foundation has recognized the University of Arizona for its work in preventing student suicide.
The Jed Foundation was created in 2000 by Donna and Phil Satow, who lost their son Jed to suicide. Jed was a UA student when he took his life in 1998.
The Jed Foundation has a new program called the JedCampus Seal, which it awards to postsecondary institutions that exhibit comprehensive mental health promotion and suicide prevention programming on campus. The UA is one of 37 schools nationwide to be awarded the inaugural seal.
Other schools on the list include the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; the University of Southern California; California State University, Chico; and Texas State University.
The UA’s comprehensive suicide-prevention efforts include in-person training that teaches students and employees how to ask someone about suicide and media campaigns that include educational posters, videos, newsletters and brochures.
The Jed Foundation compared the UA’s programs with the recommended practices outlined in “The Comprehensive Approach to Mental Health and Suicide Prevention on College and University Campuses,” developed by the Jed Foundation and the Suicide Prevention Resource Center.
