Riding the bus will cost more starting Friday.
The Tucson City Council voted in April to increase Sun Tran and Sun Van fares to generate $1.3 million to chip away at a $35 million projected budget shortfall for fiscal year 2012. Those increases go into effect July 1.
In addition, Sun Shuttle fares will also increase to mirror the fares set for Sun Tran and Sun Van, per a Regional Transportation Authority board decision on June 9.
On Sun Tran, one-way full fares will increase from $1.25 to $1.50, express fares from $1.50 to $2, and a day pass from $3 to $3.50. Economy fares will now cost 50 cents. Aero park fares won’t increase, though.
On Sun Van, the full fare goes up from $2.50 to $3, with the low-income fare now $1 instead of 80 cents.
Transfers from Sun Tran routes 1-99 are still free, but passengers transferring from Sun Express Routes 101X through 312X must pay a 50-cent surcharge.
