Authorities have arrested an Oracle man who allegedly overmedicated himself with prescription drugs and then fired a weapon as paramedics responded to his home.
James Evans, 59, was taken into custody after Wednesday’s incident, Pinal County Sheriff’s deputies say.
Evans fired a rifle 11 times into the air when paramedics arrived at his home about 4 p.m. Wednesday, they say.
He barricaded himself in his home for three hours before surrendering. Authorities say they later found a large stock of weapons and ammunition inside Evans’ home.
Evans was taken to a hospital where he was evaluated and properly medicated.
He’s been booked into the county’s adult detention center on suspicion of discharging a firearm within city limits and disorderly conduct with weapon.
