Two Davis-Monthan airmen who worked in the same aircraft maintenance unit were sent to jail and will be ejected from the Air Force after their recent military trials on drug charges.
Airman Basic Steven A. Jetton was sentenced to a year's confinement for buying cocaine in Tucson and Mesa and distributing it on the local air base in March and April.
In a related case, Airman 1st Class Charles J. Evans will spend seven months in custody for bringing cocaine on base with intent to distribute and, in one case, for distributing the drug.
All the distribution charges involved small amounts of the drug — less than 2 grams, roughly the size of a fingernail.
Both airmen also were convicted of using cocaine and marijuana. Each received a bad conduct discharge.
Jetton, an assistant dedicated crew chief with D-M's 355th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced on Dec. 3, base officials said. He came to D-M in February 2007 after enlisting in San Diego in mid-2006.

Evans, a weapons load crew member in the same squadron, pleaded not guilty and was convicted and sentenced on Dec. 12. He joined the Air Force in Phoenix in February 2007 and arrived at D-M six months afterward.
The Air Force, anxious to maintain mental fitness of personnel who work with complex equipment or classified information, has a zero tolerance policy against drug use and conducts random drug testing of its troops.
