A Mexican man wanted for attempted murder in the shooting of a police officer in Sonora has been handed over to law enforcement authorities in Mexico.
Jose Mario Islas-Andrade, 32, was turned over Thursday at the Nogales port of entry, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials say.
Islas-Andrade was arrested Wednesday in Tucson after special agents assigned to a border enforcement security task force received information on his location.
Islas-Andrade is from Nogales, Mexico, authorities say. They say he’s charged in two Mexican criminal arrest warrants for the 2008 kidnapping of Nogales resident Pedro Paez-Perez and the shooting of Sonora State Police officer Raul Rubio-Flores earlier this year.
Rubio-Flores was shot multiple times at point-blank range, but survived.

Islas-Andrade had previously been deported from the United States, authorities say.
