A St. David man was found dead early Tuesday and another man was missing after being swept away in a wash north of Benson, an official said.
Zunon Martinez Guzman, 61, and another man whose name has not been released had gone to purchase a load of hay for their cattle Monday night and were on their way back to St. David when they tried to drive through rapidly running flood water, said Carol Capas, a Cochise County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman.
They were driving a 1997 Ford flatbed truck on Cascabel Road near Milepost 23 and got stuck in 4 to 5 feet of water, she said.
A man who was also driving down Cascabel Road saw the stranded truck and tried to throw a rope to Guzman, who was on top of the hay on the flat bed. But Guzman fell into the water and was swept away, Capas said.
The passer-by got someone to call for help and the Cochise County Sheriff's Department was notified about 7:40 p.m., Capas said.

Guzman's body was found about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, she said. He was about a half-mile away from the truck.
The search continued Tuesday for the other man who was also from St. David, Capas said.
The search was called off Tuesday night, but would resume today, Capas said.
