A Red Rock man who allegedly posed as an attorney in an insurance fraud scam was indicted Wednesday by a state grand jury on one count each of fraud, theft and forgery.
Victor Paul Vasquez, 41, was arrested Jan. 12 and was booked into the Maricopa County jail, said a news release from the Arizona Attorney General’s office.
In September 2011, Vasquez identified himself as “Victor Vasquez, Esq.” and allegedly negotiated with State Farm Insurance Company on behalf of a woman named Guadalupe Medrano who was involved in a car crash, the release said.
To settle the claim, State Farm issued a $12,500 check to Vasquez in Medrano’s name, the release said. Vasquez cashed the check, but Medrano did not receive any of the money, the release said. Medrano has $8,000 in unpaid medical bills, the release said.
In August 2008, the Maricopa County Superior Court issued a cease and desist order to stop Vasquez from posing as an attorney.
