A 39-year-old Tucson man already serving 10 years for aggravated driving under the influence was sentenced to another 35.5 years in prison Monday for crashing head-on into a Sahuarita police officer during a chase.
On March 10, 2008, a Tucson police officer saw a car speeding near Grant and Oracle roads at 11:55 p.m. The driver refused to stop, and Tucson police began following the car from the air, according to court documents.
The driver of the car ran several red lights at speeds approaching 90 miles per hour, and when he turned onto Old Nogales Highway, he hit Sahuarita Police Officer Sean Santos' patrol car so hard it was sent backward into Officer Michael Munkelnbeck's car.
Both officers spent the night in the hospital.
Blood tests showed the driver of the car, who was identified as Martin Leon Corral, had cocaine in his system. Corral was convicted by a Pima County Super Court jury on multiple felony charges in April.

Superior Court Judge Howard Fell gave Corral 802 days credit for the time he's already served up to now. The crash sentence is to be served consecutively to the DUI sentence.
