A 3-year-old boy became the sixth child to drown in the Tucson area this summer after he slipped into a backyard swimming pool during a party Saturday evening, authorities said.
The boy drowned in an above-ground pool in the 2700 block of North Haskell Drive, near North Alvernon Way and East Glenn Street, while his parents were visiting the home, said Capt. Trish Tracy, a Tucson Fire Department spokeswoman.
He was last seen inside the house five minutes before he was found at the bottom of the pool, Tracy said.
A fence surrounded the pool, but the boy was able to get around it, she said.
There were seven adults and 15 children at the home when the drowning occurred, she said.
The boy was taken to Tucson Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
