Tucson firefighters found the charred remains of an adult man in a burning sport utility vehicle Tuesday morning in the Rillito River near North Camino de la Tierra.
Police released few details Tuesday, but homicide investigators are conducting the inquiry into the suspicious death, said Officer Dallas Wilson, a spokesman for the department.
He said evidence at the scene leads detectives to suspect suicide, but he would not provide details, noting the case is still under investigation.
Detectives were still working to confirm the identify of the man, he said.
The Chevy Avalanche had an Arizona license plate, and police were checking the vehicle's registration in an attempt to confirm the man's identity, said Capt. Paul McDonough, a spokesman for the Tucson Fire Department.
