The University of Arizona Clarinet Quartet, made up of three graduate students and their mentor/professor, will present a concert Tuesday at Academy Village. It's part of a weekly music series sponsored by the Arizona Senior Academy.
Open to the public free of charge, the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the great room of the Arizona Senior Academy Building, 13715 E. Langtry Lane.
The program will feature music by 20th century classical composers Alec Wilder, Gordon Jacob, Harold Owen and Ferenc Farkas.
Members of the quartet are Jerry Kirkbride, UA professor of clarinet and former clarinetist with the Dorian Wind Quintet; Il-Hun Jang, a music arts doctoral candidate who received an Artists Diploma from Duquesne University; Ashley Knecht, master's degree candidate and member of the UA Graduate Wind Quintet; and Daniel Becker, also a master's degree candidate who is a teaching assistant in the UA Clarinet Studio.

As the Clarinet Studio professor, Kirkbride works closely with graduate students majoring in clarinet performance during their years at the UA.
"We work during weekly individual lessons and other times on improving their clarinet and musical skills," he said. "This includes helping them prepare for their required recitals and exams, and, in the case of doctoral students, working with them on their doctoral paper and, of course, preparing them for their professional career in the music world."
Academy Village is an active-adult community located off Old Spanish Trail six miles southeast of Saguaro National Park East.
Due to the popularity of Arizona Senior Academy events and the hall's limited seating, non-members are encouraged to make reservations.
