Do you ever wonder if your Subaru Forester is faster then the sports car that just zipped past you on Grant Road? There is a safe and fun way to find out at Southwestern International Raceway (SIR), which has street-legal racing nights on its quarter-mile track five times a year.
If you're at least 18 and have $20, a valid drivers license and proof of registration and insurance, you can see how fast your car will go.
"You can take mom and pop's car or truck and feel like a Top Fuel racer," said George Camp, race director at SIR, 12000 S. Houghton Road.
"People can race their cars down the strip as long as it is street legal and passes inspection," Camp said. "We've even had semi-trucks racing on the track."
Last Friday night at SIR, participants included a mom racing her 2007 Toyota Sequoia and Wilcox High School senior Cara Parker racing her dad's 2008 Ford F350 truck.
