The back-to-school season is upon us and - aside from packing tissues for the first-day-of-kindergarten goodbyes - here are some reminders for the school year:
• School zones - The speed limit is 15 mph around the campuses when school is in session. The fine for speeding in a school zone is $322.
• Local law enforcement will conduct routine back-to-school patrols for the first few weeks of school.
• Crosswalks - Motorists must wait until pedestrians have completely crossed the street when people are in a yellow school crosswalk.
• Stopping for buses - Motorists in either direction must stop for all school buses when the bus' lights are flashing or its stop sign is displayed. If the bus stops on the other side of a median, drivers can proceed.
