Prayer shawls: Volunteers in their own homes crochet or knit prayer shawls for hospice patients, their families, or those grieving the loss of a loved one. The shawls are about 5 to 5.5 feet long by about 20 to 26 inches wide with fringe on either end. The only requirement is to know how to knit or crochet.
Active older adults: The local office of a national nonprofit education organization for adults age 50 and older has a volunteer opportunity for office volunteers. Responsibilities include answering phones and making phone calls, filing and copying. Work in a friendly and fun environment with other active older adults in the administrative office from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
