It may not have been chocolate and peanut butter, but the combination tack and rummage sale for Therapeutic Riding of Tucson, 8920 E. Woodland Road, went great together.
For the past four years TROT has added vendor tables for a rummage sale to its sale of donated and used tack.
Despite the increased competition, the horse-related gear remains the star attraction of the annual event, proceeds of which go to the 36-year-old nonprofit group.
"It goes fast - it's gone in the first two hours," said Mary Anne Slawson, a certified riding instructor for TROT who supervised the rapidly disappearing bridles, blankets and boots Saturday.
"Then the last hour it's dead."
But things on the rummage-sale side didn't slow down, as tables remained open for business into the early afternoon, hours after the tack side closed.

Donna DeConcini, a TROT volunteer who coordinated the sale of secondhand shoes, tools and toys, estimated more than 400 bargain hunters had shown up through late morning.
"It's been our best year," DeConcini said. "We've had double the donations, double the vendors, double the volunteers."
Cathy Brooks, TROT's volunteer recruiter, agreed.
"It's been a steady stream - one of the better years I've seen," she said. "They've shown up in force."
