Saturday's opening of the long-awaited Crossroads at Silverbell Park was a veritable Who's Who, drawing Marana's current mayor and council, a former mayor, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and representatives of D.L. Withers Construction and the Marana Parks and Recreation department.
Many got in on the action when it was time to cut the ribbon for the park, at North Silverbell and North Cortaro roads.
The $4 million park, built by D.L. Withers Construction, is located along the Santa Cruz River and encompasses 48 acres.
It includes two new soccer fields, two Little League baseball fields, a softball field, a basketball and tennis court, an outdoor performance area and a dog park.
"I'm glad we have a new, close area for our pets as well as a nice park, finally," said Ashley Quijada, a Marana resident who lives near the park.

While hundreds attended the grand opening, many relaxing on the new green grass, the Humane Society of Southern Arizona hosted an adopt-a-thon event near the dog park.
Events were rounded out with live music, a snack bar, soccer, softball games and library events.
