1Larceny was reported at 8 a.m. Feb. 23 at KinderCare Learning Centers, 7277 N. Oldfather Road. A woman told police the following: Someone stole her purse from the front passenger's side seat of her car. She left her 5-year-old son in the car when she dropped off another child. When she came back to the car, her son said a man took her purse. She thought the boy was joking but she could not find it. The boy told police the man opened the passenger's side door, took his mother's purse and drove away in a gray van. Two jump drives containing work and financial information were among the items inside the purse.
2Criminal damage was reported at 7:42 a.m. Feb. 20 in the 7600 block of North Quail Ridge Drive. A resident told police the following: She heard a loud noise at 10:30 p.m. the previous evening but did not see any damage when she walked around the house. She discovered her mailbox had been destroyed. She found a ripped up plastic bottle inside the box. She estimated the damages at $200.

3A 2005 Ford F250 truck valued at $15,000 was reported stolen at 6:57 a.m. Feb. 18 at Springs at Continental Ranch apartments, 7901 N. Cortaro Road. A resident told police he parked the truck at 7 p.m. the previous evening. He said his neighbor noticed the truck was missing at 8 p.m. when he went jogging. He told police he has the only set of keys and the truck is paid off.
PIMA COUNTY
4Two students were cited on suspicion of possession of marijuana at 8:02 a.m. Feb. 18 at Mountain View High School, 3901 W. Linda Vista Blvd. The assistant principal told deputies he confronted the boys after they were seen coming out of the desert between the high school and a nearby apartment complex. He said the area is known to be frequented by students smoking cigarettes and marijuana. The boys admitted they had been smoking marijuana. They gave him a homemade foil pipe and a small amount of marijuana. The boys were also cited on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and released to their parents.
5Theft was reported at 8:45 a.m. Feb. 17 in the 1300 block of West Sol Place. A resident told deputies someone took items from a garage in the backyard. She said she has been showing the house to prospective tenants and left the garage door unlocked. A bio-diesel converter valued at $3,600 and four tires with rims valued at $2,400 were taken.
6Embezzlement was reported at 12:01 p.m. Feb. 16 at Farmer's Insurance Group, 5425 N. Oracle Road. An employee told deputies the following: She discovered that an independent agent fraudulently took about $190,000 in advance commissions on several fake life insurance policies. The man admitted to the fraud in an interview during an audit. The company has recouped $63,000 but $127,000 remains outstanding. The incident is under investigation.
ORO VALLEY
7A house fire was reported at 11:07 p.m. Feb. 26 in the 1600 block of East Deer Shadow Lane. The resident told police the following: Her smoke alarm went off and the house filled with smoke. Firefighters from Golder Ranch Fire District removed part of the drywall and discovered the heater was malfunctioning. According to the report, the heater caused tar and tar paper to catch fire, which caused the vents to heat up to nearly 300 degrees. The fire investigator told the resident the house needed to be checked out by a fire inspector.
8Fraud was reported at 11:21 a.m. Feb. 24 at the Oro Valley Police Department, 11000 N. La Cañada Drive. A woman told police the following: She received a notice in the mail about a parking ticket she failed to pay. The ticket was issued last August in Oakland, Calif. She was not in Oakland at that time and does not own the vehicle with the license plate number listed.
9Vandalism was reported at 9:45 a.m. Feb. 23 at Saddle Ridge apartments, 450 W. Cool Drive. A maintenance supervisor told police he found graffiti on the parking lot walls next to a drainage tunnel. He said he found several spray paint cans on the ground. According to the report, the graffiti was in painted in several different colors. A resident told police he saw several teens spray-painting the wall between 6 and 7 p.m. the previous evening. He said he yelled at the teens and they ran away.
10 A 16-year-old girl and a 20-year-old woman were cited on suspicion of shoplifting and released at 6:08 p.m. Feb. 22 at Kohl's, 7785 N. Oracle Road. An employee told police the following: He watched the girl and the woman empty the contents of diaper bags in the trunk of their car. He said they took merchandise from the shelves and walked into the same dressing room. A store manager found price tags torn from clothing, jewelry and other items in the dressing room. Both admitted they stole the items, which were found inside the diaper bags. The 16-year-old was released to her mother.
