Question: Is Monica Goodling, once U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' White House liaison, related to former U.S. Rep. Bill Goodling, R-Pa.? What's her background?
Answer: Bill Goodling doesn't think he's related to Monica Goodling, according to the Patriot News in Harrisburg, Pa.
"She is apparently very bright and the president of her class and I wish I could say she got her brilliance from me, but I don't believe she's related to my family," said Bill Goodling, who retired from Congress in 2000.
Monica Goodling, 33, is a 1995 graduate of Messiah College in Grantham, Pa., where she studied communications and politics. She received her law degree at Regent University, a Virginia Beach, Va., school founded by Pat Robertson.
She worked on President Bush's campaign and for then-Attorney General John Ashcroft before becoming Gonzales' senior counsel and the Justice Department's liaison to the White House. Goodling, embroiled in the scandal over the firing of eight U.S. attorneys, resigned her position in early April.
