The fire that destroyed a historic "castle" home in Prescott Valley was accidental, authorities say.
Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority determined the fire was "likely originated from the use of one of the fireplaces in the residence," CAFMA said.
CAFMA and the Prescott Fire Department were dispatched to the Barlow-Massicks house about 3:18 p.m. on May 2, where crews found the two-story home with flames showing from the roof, CAFMA has said in a Facebook post. The house dated back to the late 1800s, officials said.
The home, also known as "The Castle," was occupied when the fire started, but the occupant evacuated before crews arrived, CAFMA said.
One person was taken by Copperstate Ambulance for further treatment.
A fire that gutted the historic Barlow-Massicks house in Prescott Valley on May 2 has been ruled accidental.
