In just three years, an instant of time in America’s past and future, Donald Trump will exit the political stage, leaving the Democratic Party with a huge vacuum to fill. Today, its platform is: whatever Trump is for, we are against. For confirmation, we only need to read the Daily Star Letters to the Editor, with over half of the letters offering diatribes uncomplimentary to the president and no discussion of issues. Clearly outside intervention is needed so back by unpopular demand is an expanded version of my letter as to why political conservatives believe the Democratic Party has lost its way, offering an admittedly simplistic biopsy of their current ideology:
— Diversity is our strength, unity is optional.
— Joe Biden was as sharp as a tack.
People are also reading…
— Overweight Americans experience food insecurity.
— Men can give birth, biology is just a suggestion.
— A two-state solution between the river and the sea is achievable.
— Sunbeams and pinwheels are cost-effective for all our increasing energy needs.
— School vouchers are a big fat tax break for only the wealthy.
— Open borders with no assimilation is the American Dream.
Methinks these ideas are not mainstream America, and my plea to the Democratic Party is not to surrender to your progressive wing. Return to the party of John Fitzgerald Kennedy or even William Clinton. Republicans believe that we have been steadfast in our Ronald Reagan right-of-center while your party has, and continues to, make a dramatic shift to the Bernie-AOC alt-left. If you don’t agree, continue reading:
— Drag queens in kindergarten are healthy for childhood development.
— Socialism, not capitalism, provides prosperity for all.
— Defunding the police and release without bail reduces crime.
— Genocide is happening in Gaza, not Nigeria and Sudan.
— Voting should not just be on a November Tuesday but 45 days before and five days after.
— Democracy is under attack by free speech.
— Health care for uninvited guests does not raise our medical insurance costs.
— Guns kill, not shooters.
We Republicans have our own dirty laundry on the far right but thankfully we have legacy media to instantly highlight every problem so we can be better positioned to correct them because we want to preserve America’s trust in our razor-thin majority leadership. Enough about us, now back to your idiocy:
— Blacks are too stupid to get IDs to vote.
— Government needs more employees, not fewer, to solve America’s problems.
— Penises are OK in women’s bathrooms and locker rooms.
— Math is racist, 2+2=oppression.
— The unhoused want homes.
— Only rich people are receiving tax cuts.
— Queers for Palestine would be warmly greeted on a visit to Gaza.
— America’s tariffs are bad, and China is a developing nation needing help.
These zingers address practicality, morality and critical thinking and the few Democrats who may still be reading this column may say that Republican hypocrisy abounds. Talk about that among yourselves while I return to the seemingly endless list:
— Men have no advantage in women’s sports.
— America's economy is in the toilet.
— Autism is one in 20,000, not one in 1 in 36.
— America’s systemic biases prevent those with high melanin content in their skin to succeed.
— Abortion simply removes unwanted protoplasm from a woman’s uterus.
— Border crashers aren’t voting, receiving benefits or changing congressional maps.
— America’s current president is a warmonger, not a peacemaker.
— America can spend its way out of its debt crisis.
The political divide can be instantly narrowed by removing Donald Trump from the narrative. Democrats should reread and decide which issues have a direct link to King Donald and go to work on the rest. I trust this intervention has been helpful.
