The topic of abortion is not singular
Abortion is a topic still known by one word, one procedure. It is no such thing. The procedure is a medical decision, not for singular use.
Yet, most seem never to have understood how many more critical health care procedures for females lie under the heading of one “named” procedure. Education is key! We must speak in detail, in ever language, re: D & C, miscarriage, fatally damaged/lifeless fetus, wherein remedies “require” this same procedure, often to protect a pregnant female.
Saying “the life of the mother” is incorrect. One does NOT become a ‘mother’ until she returns home to a partner, spouse, or family, to be a parent and to raise a child.
Citizens chose the original option. A bill was signed into law. SCOTUS endorsed/enforced it. SCOTUS took it away. This law of freedom must be restored. The final decision must be between female, doctor, and family.

Republicans and Trump
I don’t understand the mentality of Republicans and their attachment to Donald Trump. Are they as stupid as they appear or do they just not have any backbone that they cannot dis-attach themselves from this despicable human being?
He now even controls their votes and he is not even associated with them. He doesn’t want them to vote for a strict immigration policy because he does not want Biden to get credit for such a policy.
This man is a threat to democracy, he is a criminal, a rapist, an insurrectionist (and should not even be allowed to run for public office as per the Fourth Amendment), he a narcissist, a pathological liar, and I could go on and on. All of these character flaws, he shouldn’t even be allowed to be on the ballot for public office or to be supported by any semi-intelligent person.

The Horrible Wizard of Lies
Sixty years of the GOP’s Southern Strategy has dumped Americans into a dystopian reality TV show, “The Horrible Wizard of Lies,” starring Donald Trump and thousands of spineless politicians who have ceded their brains, hearts, and courage to Trump.
In this nightmare, songs become dirges and rainbows are banned. Numerous investigations keep revealing the humbug behind the curtain, but Fox-colored glasses keep people asleep under the opiate of illusion. Media covers the horse race but fails to uncover the money behind it.
Inflaming issues, like the border, never solves them. The politics of division never unites. Trump’s Yellow Brick Road is built from fool’s gold, laid by a conman who, like all authoritarians, falsely promises to return us to an ideal past that never really existed.
Within us lies the power to return home to democracy — wisdom that overcomes ignorance, compassion that overcomes resentment, and courage that overcomes.

Why only 7,000 anti-Trump letters?
More whining and another rant from Cult 45. Too many anti-Trump letters-not fair. I wonder why, only 7,000 I say. Perhaps this is the true proportion of letters the Star receives. Trump supporters are certainly in the minority.
Think about it, if you dare. Critical thinking, along with any honest assessment of Trump’s unprecedented behavior can clearly show how easily these letters can be provoked. Tired of hateful sickening diatribes? Along with being a well documented liar, Trump spews hate quite regularly. No problem with that, and his other despicable behavior? Conman, criminal, selfish aspiring dictator, traitor and a threat to democracy — what’s not to like. Makes me want to write a letter.

AAA opponents have gone too far
It’s one thing to oppose the Arizona Abortion Access Act; it’s another thing entirely to lie about what it proposes. It Goes Too Far advocates have themselves gone too far in their claims concerning the Act and what it means for Arizonans.
They claim it removes hospital safety standards, eliminates medical doctors, allows late-term abortions up to the moment of birth, and shuts out parents.
It’s absurd to contend that when it comes to pregnant women, all standard medical practices and safeguards are suddenly nullified and anyone, including chiropractors and podiatrists could provide abortions.
The Act has only three provisions. It protects a woman’s right to a safe and legal abortion up to fetal viability as determined by her doctor; protects her right to a safe and legal abortion after fetal viability to preserve her physical health, her mental health, and her life as determined by her doctor; and prevents the State from penalizing her or her doctor for their actions. Period.

Laws of the USA
It has always been my understanding that in the United States of America no one is above the law.
Would someone please help me understand why anyone should vote for an individual who 1. has been indicted by four different grand juries composed of citizens who are members of all political parties; 2. wants to delay all his trials rather than having them as soon as possible if he is innocent; 3. swore to uphold the U.S. Constitution and then encouraged a crowd to storm the Capital and keep the Congress from doing its job according to the Constitution; 4. makes a mockery of the law both in and out of the courtroom and 5. thinks the only good leaders are basically dictators and plans to use the DOJ to punish anyone who doesn’t support him.

Major flaw in our electoral system
Re: the Jan. 28 Editorial cartoon by Steve Greenberg
Editor:
The cartoon showed a “No Labels Party” billboard slowly peeling away, revealing a “coalition to unintentionally insure a Trump victory” billboard. Without evidence, the cartoonist unwittingly assumes that it’s unintentional.
Also unwittingly, the cartoonist exposes a gut-wrenching flaw in our electoral system. A small group of rich guys, or even a single rich guy, through the use of money alone, can put a candidate on our national presidential ballot without the rich guy even revealing who he is, or even that he exists.
The rich guy also doesn’t even have to reveal how his candidate was selected (he personally gets to pick him). It’s strange that our national media can spend countless hours devoted to the primary selection process for other parties without even mentioning this. Even once.

Coincidence or not …
I read a news article a few days ago about a joint raid carried out by Jordanian military inside Syria, in cooperation with an American base to stem the flow of illegal drugs used by extremists.
The article mentioned that the Jordanians informed the Syrian authorities about this drug route and who the actors were. The Syrian authorities did nothing to stop this drug route, so the Jordanian’s raided the area, seizing drugs and money. I find it hard to ignore the coincidence of the attack on the U.S. base 22, which besides other duties, is used to monitor this illicit trade.
Base 22 is in close proximity of the area of that Jordanian raid. Any analyst with any knowledge can make an assumption that extremists can now rely on state actors to defend their drug routes.

We need cooperatives NOT corporations!
Any economic system, form of government, religion, or other “ism” that allows the wealthy to accumulate ever more wealth is the essence of corruption.
Our corporate capitalism inherently generates ever-increasing wealth inequality, and the wealthiest will always use their wealth to buy whatever government exists and turn it into their puppet.
So why has corporate capitalism taken over the world? Because it feeds one of the desires all humans possess … to accumulate material things (hoarding).
This is a survival trait left over from when humans were few and didn’t dominate the planet. But now it’s our worst enemy … the driving force in the extinction of most forms of life on Earth.
Now we must foster another trait all humans possess … altruism/socialism/the good of the whole! If we do not immediately reverse this engine of self-centered self-destruction, we will become just another dead-end branch on the tree of life on Earth!

Wondering “What If?”
Re: the Jan. 31 letter “What if?”
A Foothills resident and apparent Trump supporter bemoaned the myriad letters published in the Star foretelling all the horrible things that will happen if Trump were to be reelected.
The writer then wonders what if Trump merely took office and magically solved a variety of world problems.
After I finished laughing, I wondered, “What if pigs could fly?”

Inevitable war
Today, the focus is on petty politics and who’s going to be in power. What I see has already been done several times in history. The fight over available resources.
The demographics show that the population is too much for the available resources of farm land, water, food and shelter. This has always led to the inevitable struggle to get MY share. This simple question is how are you fixed for this lack of resources and what will you be willing to do to ensure your family survives.
Secondarily, whom do you trust to work on the problems we are going to face. It certainly isn’t the Republicans as they are too locked in on getting their bad leader in office.
The Dems are a little better as they face facts and not delusions, but I’m not sure the leadership for our needs is there either. I’d be interested in hearing other opinions on this.

A great country?
I recently read some questions I am pondering before election day.
What fundamental rights of all citizens should a great country defend?
How should great countries respond to violations of fundamental rights of any of their citizens?
How should great countries settle disputes or disagreements?
Should great countries ever forgive transgressions?
How should great countries handle complex issues and deal with unintended consequences?
How should great countries educate their citizens?
How should great countries manage or process information?
How should great countries treat other countries?
How should great countries treat their poorest citizens?
Do citizens of a great country have any obligations to each other?
How should great countries inspire their citizens to be great?
What qualities should a great country’s leaders have?
What examples should a great country’s leaders set for children?
What would you add to this list?

Flypaper
Why are we in Syria? To fight ISIS. Half the country is ISIS. Why are we in Iraq? To hold onto a democracy that does not exist. Then, south of the Middle East one must ask. Why are we in Niger? We spend countless billions supplying military hardware to Middle Eastern and African countries.
Why? What do we get out of it? We get more dead service members. We spend more than our defense budget on those countries that are third world and none a democracy. Of course, Joe Biden is found to be responsible for anything that goes wrong in that region of the world. The smartest foreign affairs decision President Biden made was to get us out of Afghanistan.
Joe, make another tough decision. Pack up and get out of the Middle East and Africa. Ah, but the Chinese and the Russians will go in. Yeah, the flies will have captured the flypaper.

MAGA GOP fiddles while world burns
First, the notion that Republicans respect the rule of law is pure fiction. Second, they show a profound ignorance of the essence of public service. Third, their governance is crippled by allegiance to oligarchs and Trump’s whims. The GOP’s dysfunction is glaring, no longer concealed in a charade.
MAGA legislators, displaying shocking indifference, endanger citizens and national security to thwart Biden’s electoral successes. In red states, they flout the U.S. Constitution and court rulings; a stark, deliberate dereliction of duty.
With Inauguration Day 2025 looming, the real question is: who can wait that long for these leaders to address our crises and fulfill their duties? The American people and our allies certainly cannot.
