So called assault weapons ban
Evidently the old saying is true. If you don’t learn from the past you’re doomed to repeat it.
Point in case. Two letters one Sunday and today, both advocate for an assault weapons ban. What they forgot was that was tried for 10 years. Guess what, it failed. For those 10 years no assault type weapons could be made in or imported to the US. Civilian magazines were limited to 10 rounds.
Shortly after taking affect, there was no change to the crime rate. In fact, when it sunset and things went back to before after those 10 years, the crime rate still stayed the same. You know what did change? Half way through the 10 years the price of an AK-47 jumped from $550 to nearly $1,900. My guess. The two who wrote those letters don’t know what the letters AR mean. It’s not assault rifle.

Trump decided no jury
I agree with the author that there is no jury, but only because Trump decided he did not want a jury trial (he didn’t tick the right box). Now he is whining about not having a jury trial. He needs to throw his lawyer under the bus, along with the rest of his legal team.
As for “being no victims”, the New York statutes do not require a “victim”. But then again tax fraud would make all of the citizens of that state “victims”.
In a similar manner if stopped for a traffic violation, one can tell the officer that there was no accident so no “victim” and he should go catch some criminals and leave honest citizens alone. As for the officer’s reply, I leave it to the reader to fill in his words.

SCOTUS code of conduct is a joke
The Supreme Court code of ethics is tantamount to saying that it’s unethical to rob a bank, but, if you choose to do it anyway, we have no plans to either investigate or punish you for doing so.

Robbins/Rulney
The University of Arizona regularly fires coaches, pays them the remainder of their contract, and sends them home to sit on the couch. All this for losing too many ball games. The Arizona Board of Regents should consider hiring replacements for Robbins and Rulney, pay them the remainder of their contract, and send them home to sit on the couch. Their incompetence is causing far more damage than any coach ever could.

Israel is not committing genocide
Saying Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians by destroying the terrorist organization Hamas, is like saying the Allies in World War II were trying to commit genocide of Germans when defeating the Nazis.

Restaurateur vs Chickens
Re: the Nov. 18 article “Restaurant owner files suit over egg rules.”
I hope Mr. Krueger treats his employees with more compassion than he shows for other living creatures, chickens for example. I have a couple of suggestions where he could possibly recoup the increase in the cost of eggs. First, maybe he could reduce his office space by half its current size and renegotiate his current lease. Second, he could consider downsizing his current living conditions in half which is basically what he is requesting for some millions of chickens that help put money in his pocket.

Addiction?
Re: the Nov. 27 letter “Addiction.”
I’ve read several letters to the editor from this letter writer. They all tend to support Republican views and denigrate Democratic ones. His Nov. 27 letter states that “Democrats are addicted to Trump hatred”. Let me suggest that disdain for Trump has another explanation — Trump’s own statements and actions. Exhibit: Trump’s lies (the biggest of which is that the last election was stolen) and his stated intent to dismantle our democracy and replace it with his autocracy. Critics will be banned and the federal bureaucracy will be staffed by “yes” people. Just look at his behavior as a politician and as a businessman. He insults, berates and punishes. No addiction is needed to despise this man.

Gas prices
Those claiming Biden had no effect on gas pricing. When Biden was in office for just a few days he shut down the oil pipeline from Canada and declared a war on fossil fuels. The futures market which determines what the cost of oil/gas is today responded by pushing oil prices up. After Biden’s proclamation gas prices shot up draining more disposable income from all American’s pockets. During the Trump administration America was energy independent for the first time in 75 years. We were major exporters of oil and natural gas. Prices at the pump were $2.20-$2.30/gallon. If America declared open drilling the expectation of a supply increase would push prices down. Those who give a pass to Biden on oil pricing and inflation need to understand the causes of both. Everyone needs to wake up and realize that the direction of our economy can be changed with competent leadership and direction.

Shady Republicans
The Republicans continue with their fixation on Hunter Biden. Despite being unable to connect Hunter to Joe in business dealing they have subpoenaed Hunter. Did he benefit from his father’s name, yes as did Trump’s kids. Biden was also not in office at the time they are investigating. Hunter has cooperated, something Jim Jordan didn’t do when subpoenaed. Hunter asked for the hearing to be televised to prevent leaks, out of context usage, misstatements, etc. Of course the Republicans don’t want transparency, and God forbid they actually do their real job and pass some legislation.

Leadership opportunity at U of A
If there is really a financial crisis at the University of Arizona, now would be a perfect the time for President Robbins to exercise some true leadership. First, he should agree to cut his salary by 10%. Second, he should request all University employees making over $500,000.00 per year to take a 5% pay cut. Yes, that includes coaches Lloyd, Fisch, Barnes, AD Heeke, and CFO Rulney. Third, he should request all non-teaching University employees who make over $200,000.00 a year to take a 2% salary cut. Fourth, he should direct all department heads to eliminate waste and over-staffing. (Ten assistant football coaches — really? I played on a couple winning football teams that had two coaches!) While perhaps not the total answer, these measures would go a long way in restoring the trust and respect for the administration by the students, parents, faculty and employees of the University, and even taxpayers of the State of Arizona. I believe it’s called “leading by example”.
