Regarding Jack Walters' letter in the Oct. 9 paper titled "No fascists in sight": My Webster's Dictionary defines fascism as "A political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition." From Trump's stated support for (and from) white nationalist organizations, his stated intent to replace portions of the government with MAGA supporters, and his plan to remain in power beyond his elected term, I would say that Trump meets the definition of a fascist. Walters seems to think that fascists only have angry faces, not happy faces. He seems to think that Americans cannot be fascists. He should revisit history and see the support Hitler received from numerous prominent Americans in the '30s. Americans came to their senses then and need to do the same now.
