Oh the joys of an autocrat… to have a magical all-knowing ruler sprinkle pixie dust to fix the nation’s problems… just give him the power, and voila, you can sit back and relax because the country is in the hands of a benevolent overlord… all roses and rainbows… until it’s not. Once King X rigs the system by appointing like-minded justices, judges, administrators and yes-men, and gagging the press, his authority will be all-consuming, aimed at benefitting him and his toadies.
An autocrat is the dream of someone who does not abide the work of participating in a democracy… it takes effort and frustration to know our history, our issues, their causes and their possible solutions, the resources involved and the willingness to support elected decision makers. Even if he were the wisest of humankind, he is still one person with one person’s beliefs, whims, and biases, who would be incapable of understanding the diverse cultures and needs of our citizens.
