I see that Cal Thomas has softened his rhetoric. A prior opinion of his (that the Star unfortunately published last month) called for corporal punishment and even shooting of shoplifters and protestors in unruly gatherings. Now, he’s being more cautious in his words; instead he refers, in a clumsy attempt at dark humor, to a Francisco Franco-style approach to law and order, in which offenders would simply disappear from the streets. What's the "funny" punchline about this historical oppressive fascist state? "No repeat offenders."
Mr. Thomas barely acknowledges the vast economic gulf which is leading to world migration and desperate measures. But then… there he goes again; it’s schools and the George Floyd rioters to blame!
In his anger, Mr Thomas neglects to communicate even an ounce of compassion in his columns. Why does the AZ Star continue to include him in its otherwise balanced list of contributors?
