"All gravel is not considered equal. While it is good in keeping down the dust, look for small, rounded stones. "The smaller the stone, the better," Isenberg said. "Large stones are difficult to walk on, and it's harder to clean up pet waste."
The smaller the stone is terrible. I have the small pebbles in my yard and when my dogs run around on it, it kicks it all over the place, goes under my a/c unit, pushes up under my plants and the sprinkler lines, is all over my porch and under my patio table, and it's actually easier to clean up dog waste on these small rocks.
I have regular size rocks on the side of my house and my dogs actually prefer it. They poop on it on a regular basis and they don't have any issues with their feet. The smaller rock is a nightmare and I am having to reconstruct my yard because of my dogs, so I wouldn't recommend the tiny rock, pretty much ever, for dogs. My dogs are large, so maybe that's the difference, but still.
