Please remind our mayor this is not California, and we cannot solve everything with higher taxes. Raising taxes impacts housing affordability, homeownership, and the overall cost of living in Tucson. Let's think about the lack of accountability and oversight this mayor and council has already displayed in current and previous budgets. This will allow the City Council to continue to change and spend taxpayer dollars on social programs even after voters allocated the money for other means. For example, Tucson's roads are some of the worst in the country while our trolleys and buses run free and cost our city budget huge amounts and bring in zero dollars. The city needs to implement common-sense practices, like creating more revenue producing programs and events, rather than burdening taxpayers already hit hard from inflation. Our leaders think higher spending will solve our problems but will not guarantee effective results. Higher taxes hit lower-income residents the hardest and make it more difficult for many to afford housing.
