Project Blue is a mistake for Tucson and a net loss for our environment. No, we cannot create more water and the promise that this center will be “water-positive” is misleading. Destroying our climate for the sake of economic development is a tired exercise. Reclaimed water is still water that can be used. The city is investing $86.7M to build a plant that will turn 2.5 million gallons of wastewater into drinkable water a day. This data center could use up to 5 million gallons per day. Do the math — we simply don’t have the water to spare. Bottom line: Mayor & Council need to vote no on this project. 2-3 years of potable water usage should be enough for everyone to be an emphatic no on this project. Call your Council Members and urge them to vote no before it’s too late.
