U.S. courts have always used a heavier gavel with the providers of illegal drugs than to their clientele because without the dealers there are no users.
Now we have a pop-up criminal enterprise, a north-of-the-border coyote network that deals in sanctuary for illegal immigrants. The currency of their trafficking is votes rather than dollars and they’re entrenched in Pima County.
Tucson Mayor Regina Romero is vocal and committed to initiatives like "Know Your Rights" workshops to instruct the illegal how to avoid deportation, ignoring that to harbor, conceal or impede federal law enforcement is a felony. Local policing is in lockstep. County Sheriff Chris Nanos is adamant that his local law enforcement does not take on federal immigration enforcement duties and TPD Chief Chad Kasmar says that there will be no collaboration or communication with ICE on their operations.
