John Shaw's LTE "models of statesmanship" was a good perspective at a time when the US had statesmen. I would like to add that both Roosevelt and Eisenhower invested in the infrastructure of the US and fueled our recovery from the great depression and WWII. When Eisenhower warned us about the Military/Industrial Complex, I didn't know what he meant. I guess today is the Tech/Investment Bank Complex.
