I started my journey to getting my GED with Literacy Connects in late May 2017.
I am a mom of five and I wanted and needed to show my children how important education really is.
I had landed pretty good jobs without my diploma, but there were jobs that would have helped me move up in the company that I was unable to take because I didn’t have that “piece of paper.”
I had tried two other times in the past to get my diploma but had been unsuccessful. Literacy Connects changed everything.
The teachers and volunteers are truly passionate about what they do. I didn’t have to wait for the next session to start. I was able to get started while my determination was there.
Plus, not everyone learns the same or is in the same place in their education. The teachers were so patient and caring and gave nothing but encouragement. They made me feel comfortable where I was. They celebrated with me each step of the way.

I am truly grateful for Literacy Connects. They helped me do what I thought was impossible. On Sept. 15 I earned my GED. Yes, I did it!
Now I have more options than ever! I want to get a job with the courts so I can become a child advocate. I want a job that I can be passionate about while helping people better their lives.
I have interviews lined up now that wouldn’t have been possible without my diploma. I actually got seven interviews within a week, and four of those are with the courts!
I’m able to go back to school and further my education at some point if I choose. Literacy Connects is so important because they gave me the tools I needed to be successful. They gave me hope for my future.
Literacy opens doors because education is a must. I am proof! My children get to see their mom walk across the stage next May and couldn’t be more proud or excited about it!
