The SaddleBrooke Woodworkers Club welcomed several new member at our meeting held on Tuesday, November 4. It was very exciting to see the club continually growing. Part of the regular meeting recognized that the Club was on display at the Arts and Craft show on Saturday, November 1. We saw lots of interest in the club from shoppers. Many thanks to the many residents that signed our petition for the building of a Woodworking Shop in SaddleBrooke. A woodshop is for the benefit of our community as well as staying competitive with all the other 55 and older communities near by.
During our “show and tell” segment, member Michelle Kouri shared with the group wood pieces she turned on her lathe and then embellished with texturing tools and paints. Questions, new ideas and tips were shared by all with everyone leaving with an eagerness to trying these new tricks while introducing new and veteran turners to what can be accomplished with just a little imagination.
On Wednesday, November 5, John Hardin, our club President welcomed club members to his shop for a demonstration on how to turn a wooden bowl. Discussions included how to use different tools; the differences between chuck jaws; how to sharpen tools; different RPM settings on your lathe; how to use a texturing tool; and miscellaneous tips and instructions used in woodturning.
The Woodworker’s Club next meeting will be held at 2 p.m. in the in the Saguaro Room (normally Cactus Room) at the SaddleBrooke HOA-2 Clubhouse. On Tuesday, December 2. Anyone interested in working with wood…. to include turning, carving, fabricating items... doors, cabinets, etc. are encouraged to attend and decide if you would like to become a member for only $10 annual dues. No experience necessary. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month. Though our website is “under construction”, more basic information can be found online at sbwoodworkers.org.
