Wildcats finish 5-0 in Arizona Fall Classic
Lini Koria homered in both games Sunday as the Arizona Wildcats beat Pima College 6-0 and Cypress (Calif.) 4-1 to go 5-0 in the Arizona Fall Classic at Hillenbrand Stadium.
The Wildcats defeated Central Arizona 10-1 in six innings and New Mexico 5-0 in games Saturday. K'Lee Arredondo and Brittany Lastrapes each homered twice against Central Arizona, and Arredondo also homered against Cypress.
Freshman Kenzie Fowler won Sunday's finale against Pima, allowing two hits and striking out 10 in a complete game. Fowler struck out 34 in three wins in the tournament.

Chicago Marathon time is fastest on US soil

CHICAGO — Beijing gold medalist Sammy Wanjiru of Kenya won the Chicago Marathon on Sunday with the fastest time on American soil, finishing in 2 hours 5 minutes 41 seconds.
Abderrahim Goumri of Morocco made a late push to finish second in 2:06:04, with Kenya's Vincent Kipruto in third (2:06:08).
Russia's Liliya Shobukhova took the women's title in just her second marathon, crossing the finish line in 2:25:56.
• In Birmingham, England, Zersenay Tadese of Eritrea set a race record of 59:35 in winning the World Half Marathon title for the third time in a row. Kenyan Mary Keitany won the women's race.
• In Long Beach, Calif., Tucsonan Dave Hill was first in the men's 55-59 division, finishing in 2:54:.51 in the Long Beach Marathon. Merry Dearmon-Moore, also of Tucson, was first in the women's 50-54 division in 3:17:55.

Icecats beat Rutgers, go 2-1 in Showcase
The Arizona Icecats got four power-play goals on the way to an 8-4 victory Sunday over Rutgers in the ACHA Showcase in Boardman, Ohio.
Austin Capobianco and George Schupan scored hat tricks for the Icecats (2-3), who had 49 shots on goal as they won two of three in the tournament.
The Icecats are idle this weekend, then go to UNLV for games Oct. 23 and 24. They open their home season Nov. 6 against Eastern Washington.

Phoenix rally today will honor Mercury
PHOENIX — The WBNA champion Phoenix Mercury will be honored during a rally today.
The rally in front of US Airways Center begins at 6 p.m.
The Mercury became WNBA champion for the second time in three seasons on Friday, defeating the Indiana Fever 94-86 in the deciding Game 5 of the finals.
• In Ekaterinburg, Russia, Angel McCoughtry scored 20 points to lead the U.S. women's basketball team past UMMC Ekaterinburg 78-63 and win the Ekaterinburg tournament.

Pima men's soccer wins sixth straight
Minh Vu, the ACCAC's leading scorer, had two first-half goals Saturday as the host Pima College men's soccer team topped Chandler-Gilbert 2-1.
It was the sixth straight win for Pima (12-3-1). The Aztecs are at Scottsdale today.
• The Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki — site of atomic bombings in World War II — are teaming up to make a bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics that will emphasize world peace. The announcement comes a little more than a week after Tokyo lost its bid to host the 2016 Olympics. Tokyo organizers have not indicated whether they will bid again.
• In Beijing, Novak Djokovic won the China Open with a 6-2, 7-6 (4) victory over Croatia's Marin Cilic, and Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia defeated Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 6-2, 6-4 in the women's final.
• In Tokyo, second-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won the Japan Open for his third ATP Tour title of the year, overpowering Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 6-3.
• In Oklahoma City, Fiddlers Afleet held off hard-charging Massone to win the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby by a half-length at Remington Park.
