• The Padres revised their alcohol policy that will limit players' consumption in the home clubhouse and on some team airplane trips.
Under the new policy announced Saturday, alcohol will continue to be available in the Padres' clubhouse at home, but will be limited. In addition, the team said alcohol will not be served during the final two hours on team charter flights and not at all on flights to San Diego of less than two hours.
There is no restriction on alcohol for flights not destined for San Diego and in the visiting clubhouse at Petco Park.
• NL MVP Ryan Howard was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left quadriceps strain after he was out of the starting lineup for the fifth straight game Saturday.
The Phillies recalled catcher/first baseman Chris Coste from Triple-A Ottawa to take Howard's roster spot. Howard is eligible to come off the disabled list May 25.

Howard slumped this year after hitting .313 with 58 homers and 149 RBIs in one of the best seasons ever for a sophomore player. He's batting just .204 with six homers and 23 RBIs, and has 39 strikeouts in 98 at-bats.
• Braves third baseman Chipper Jones was out of the starting lineup Saturday night in Pittsburgh after injuring both wrists and his left quadriceps during a collision with the Pirates' Jose Bautista the night before. Manager Bobby Cox said Jones might sit out today's game as well.
Jones had three hits Friday to raise his average to .303. He is 6 of 15 in his last four games.
• Chicago's Alfonso Soriano extended his career-best hitting streak to 20 games with a fifth-inning single at Philadelphia. His streak is the longest for the Cubs since Jerome Walton hit in 30 straight in 1989.
