The New England Riptide squeezed past the visiting Arizona Heat on Wednesday night, scoring the go-ahead run in the sixth to open the four-game series with a 2-1 win.
The Riptide took an early lead on a throwing error by first baseman Crystal Farley.
With runners at first and second, Jackie Pasquerella bunted, and Farley's bad throw to first allowed Destiny Frankenstein to score from second.
Farley made up for her error when she singled in Toni Mascarenas from second in the fifth inning.
Farley and Mascarenas had the Heat's only hits of the night.
The Riptide regained the lead in the sixth when KJ Kelley singled in Kristine Botto.
Jocelyn Forest picked up her league-leading 12th win. She did not allow a walk and stuck out three.
