      Letter: Life cycle matters

      • Ruth Beeker, Midtown

Tuesday's Opinion pages contained diverse views on end of life. National Catholic Register's cartoon depicted states' Assisted Suicide Laws as marring "Respect for Life". An early Alzheimer victim wrote of his plans to go to Switzerland to access assisted suicide not available here.

      • John Eric Persson, Northeast side

Thank you Rusty Martin, for your incredibly personal, thoughtful and powerful editorial. I just finished it and am inspired to immediately write to acknowledge your strength of character, not only make the most brave decision to take control of your situation, but to share it so eloquently w…

      Letter: The Trump of doom

      • Chuck Barrett, Midtown

I had a dream of the Trump of Doom last night. He appeared as a great shambling, orange-coiffed mythical Big Foot. The number 47 glowed red on his forehead, followed by a pulsing MAGA.

      Letter: WHY, WHY

      • Loyal M Johnson Jr, Oro Valley

An interesting LTE dated Aug. 15 listed a number of sayings, on of which caught my eye. That saying was “Why do people with no experience in education think they can be education administrators? And why do we vote for them?”. Taken a face value, this is an euridite statement. However, when e…

      • Gary Haslett, SaddleBrooke

Aircraft carrier, Abraham Lincoln, with 5000 sailors on board has been at sea for 250 consecutive days. This is a new record for deployment. The usual number of days is 30-45.

      Letter: A bridge too far

      • Louise Heaberlin-Goff, Vail

While I try to maintain an open-minded, fairly bipartisan perspective on politics, sometimes one has to speak up about what appear to be egregious actions taken by our government. I find your front-page article on 8/15 concerning ICE planning on using shock-inducing gloves on those whom they…

        Letter: Trump and Hegseth's incompetence

Going to war is an extremely complicated decision. Two axioms, while simple sounding, are also true. The first is, ”know your enemy.” Trump and Hegseth violated this as they thought attacking Iran would be easy and quick. Instead, Iran closed the Straights of Hormoz and attacked our bases an…

          Letter: Water use

It is wonderful that Tucson is proactive about saving and stockpiling water for future use and vital that we continue to do so. I feel that grass lawns should be banned and urge Tucson to do so. Having lawns in the desert depletes future water.

Letter: Water use for what now?

Letter: Water use for what now?

So, the farms that produce somewhat important things like food are being forced to cut water use while the state is allowing an orgy of data centers, which also use a large amount of water, so that tech bros can digitally undress children and steal the work of artists.

              Letter: Hans Christian Andersen's Ttale

In the 19th century, Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen wrote "The Emperor's New Clothes," a tale of an emperor who believed he was wearing an invisible suit as he paraded through the town, his minions in close proximity. All the townspeople gaped at their naked emperor but dared say noth…

Local opinion: What leaders like John McCain understood about the truth

A defining moment from John McCain’s 2008 campaign is being revisited as a reminder of political integrity, highlighting the importance of correcting misinformation — even within one’s own party — in today’s polarized climate.

When it passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act last year, Congress enacted some of the biggest reforms to two of America’s welfare programs in decades — the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and Medicaid, which provides healthcare for one in four low-income Americans.

Sometimes you lose even when you win. That’s what it feels like trying to make ends meet in today’s economy — and our ever-shrinking safety net isn’t helping.
