LA Fitness will close one of the Bally Total Fitness clubs it just acquired here.
A sign posted on the door of the fitness club, at 4690 N. Oracle Road near Tucson Mall, tells members it will close Thursday, but they can work out at a nearby LA Fitness at 4240 N. First Ave.
A second Bally Total Fitness location in Tucson, at 2475 N. Swan Road, will remain open and operate as LA Fitness, according to the company's website.
Fitness International LLC, an affiliate of LA Fitness International LLC, bought the assets of 171 Bally Total Fitness clubs in a deal that closed last week. All Bally Total Fitness clubs in Arizona were in that sale.
Of the clubs acquired by LA Fitness, 31 have been scheduled for closure, according to the website.
LA Fitness would not comment further about how the acquisition and closings will affect Bally's members and employees.

But Lidia H. Allen, who has worked out at the Bally Total Fitness near Tucson Mall for more than 10 years, said LA Fitness told members there it would honor their memberships through the end of December. At the beginning of the year, they'll have to buy a membership from LA Fitness, she said.
She's concerned for those who worked out at the Bally site through the SilverSneakers Fitness Program, a benefit offered through Medicare to help keep seniors active and healthy.
So far, it doesn't look like those members will be able to transfer their membership to LA Fitness, Allen said. LA Fitness clubs aren't included on a list of participating locations on the SilverSneakers website.
