Johnny Knoxville earned his fame by getting his brains — as well as sundry other body parts — bashed in on film for the enjoyment of the masses.
He stars in "Jackass: Number Two," which opens Friday (read the review in Sunday's Accent). It's the sequel to 2002's "Jackass: The Movie," which itself was an extension of Knoxville's 2000-2002 "Jackass" MTV show.
In addition to feeding his franchise, Knoxville has also segued into acting. You may have noticed him in these films, which we've rated on our special zero-to-four crutch scale, which measures the degree of danger Knoxville' character faced.
Remember Knoxville from any of these films?
Coyote Ugly (2000) — Everyone's gotta start somewhere. Knoxville breaks his way in with a microscopic part in this silly bar-dancing drama. Knoxville's credited character name: "College Guy." Zero crutches, because Knoxville wasn't onscreen long enough to get drilled.

Big Trouble (2002) — Big trouble is what you're in for if this is all you can find at the rental store. A scattershot comedy involving Miami criminals and innocents, based on a book by Dave Barry, it is as forgettable as Knoxville's tiny role. Zero crutches, because Knoxville's role was too small.
Deuces Wild (2002) — This 1950s gang drama stuck Knoxville in the role of a street tough called Vinnie Fish. Little do his fellow rumblers know that Knoxville can take a hit better than anyone. Two crutches, because there are a few fight scenes.
Men in Black II (2002) — Knoxville blasts onto megabudget summer screens as an alien with multiple heads. Too bad none of them are funny and the film is a bomb. Watching this one is like getting punched in the face by Butterbean. Three crutches, because the alien-blasting flick was so painful to watch.
Walking Tall (2004) — Knoxville fits in well as a wise-cracking sidekick to the all-business, out-for-vengeance regulator played by the Rock, who plays a tough guy out to enact punishment on thugs who have taken over his town. Four crutches, because Knoxville takes his lumps in a bar fight.
A Dirty Shame (2004) — Mix the surliness of director John Waters with Knoxville's natural comic exuberance and you'd think you'd come up with something special. Instead you get an awful sex movie that stands as a black mark of wasted effort. One crutch, because this one is about making love, not war.
Lords of Dogtown (2005) — The 1970s roots of skateboard culture get their due in this drama, based on the Stacy Peralta documentary "Dogtown and Z-Boys." Knoxville takes a background role as Topper Burks. Two crutches. Knoxville may have been hit by a loose skateboard.
The Dukes of Hazzard (2005) — Seann William Scott and Knoxville play good ol' boys in this awful Southern-fried TV series adaptation. The star power from the supporting cast, including Jessica Simpson, Burt Reynolds and Willie Nelson, isn't enough to counteract a weak script. Four crutches, because the driving stunts are pretty dangerous.
The Ringer (2005) — Knoxville takes the lead role, as a man tabbed by gamblers who pretends he has a disability in an effort to win the Special Olympics. Two crutches, because things can get rough when you're competing for the gold.
