John Coinman is nothing if not a poet.
We've always admired and deeply respected the Tucson singer-songwriter for his musical prowess and wonderfully warm stage presence.
And beneath it you could make the argument that he was, indeed, a gentleman and a poet.
And now, he offers proof. Sort of.
Kind of.
OK, so there are parts of his poetic invitation — sent to fans and folks on his email list inviting them to his show Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Monterey Court — that don't rhyme. But hey, he gets points for trying.
Coinman slugged his email "Thanksgiving Poem" and it goes like this:
People are also reading…
" 'Twas the night before Thanksgiving
Down at Monterey Court
Many people in Tucson came out to cavort
Some were at tables. Some chose to stand
They all came to hear The John Coinman Band
The John Coinman Band plays original songs
You can sit there and listen or dance all night long
To 'Barrio Girl' or 'Promise Land'
To 'River Of Fire' and 'Superman'
John's on vocals, Blair plays the bass
Peter's on guitar and Larry keeps the pace
Then there's also a guy named Neil
Who plays rock and roll on the pedal steel
This is your last chance to come down (and) hear
'Cause we won't be back until next year."
