Tucson celebs to host Downtown happy hour
You’ve heard his music over the years but it’s a safe bet that very few of us have had a cocktail served by Tucson indie-rock icon Howe Gelb.
Ditto for Arizona Blues Hall of Famer Alex Flores of the Chicago Blues Band or folkie Pete Ronstadt of his family’s Rondstadt Generations band.
Head to Downtown Kitchen + Cocktails from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday when Downtown chef/owner Janos Wilder turns over his Thursday happy hour to Gelb and company to raise money for the fledgling community-sponsored, “downtown-centric” radio station 99.1 FM Downtown Radio.
Gelb, not one to fly solo for such a worthwhile cause, is bringing along his entire Giant Sand entourage to serve drinks: Brian Lopez and Gabe Sullivan, both rising stars on the local and international scene, and bassist Thoger Lund from Denmark. Bruce Halper, who actually is a bartender, will be on hand alongside current Giant Sand drummer Winston Watson.
