Mexican-American norteño/banda singer Jenni Rivera made history in September when she was the first female regional Mexican artist to play Los Angeles' Staples Center.
She sold it out and played three hours, according to accounts, with a couple guest stars in tow, including Alejandra Guzman.
It's not surprising for longtime Tucson fans, who will be well-represented at Friday's show at Casino del Sol's AVA.
Rivera, 42, will perform the final AVA concert of 2011. Her show promises to be a blend of banda, norteño, pop and mariachi music. She might also perform her English-language pop song, which she is expected to release next year. It's a first for the singer, a multiple Latin Grammy nominee and multiplatinum-selling artist.
She also became the first artist to sell out two back-to-back nights at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles last year. And she was the first female banda artist to sell out a concert at the world-famous Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif.
