A woman who turned in front of a Tucson police officer on his way home from work has been charged in connection with the fatal collision.
Lluvia Alejandra Dominguez, 22, was cited for failure to yield and causing serious physical injury or death by moving violation.
The failure to yield charge is a civil citation, but the other charge carries a penalty of 30 days in jail and up to $10,000 in fines, said David Berkman, Pima County’s chief criminal deputy attorney.
Dominguez did not have any alcohol or drugs in her system at the time of the crash on May 17, Berkman said.
Officer Peter Mannino had just ended his shift at 7 p.m. and was on his way home when Dominguez turned in front of his motorcycle as he headed south on Palo Verde Road near East Benson Highway.
He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. It appears he was wearing a helmet.
