Tucson police have arrested a man on suspicion of attacking two teenagers with a machete at a Midtown bus stop Monday, critically injuring one.
Rickey F. Russell, 26, was booked on two counts of aggravated assault with a dangerous instrument and one count of aggravated assault with serious physical injury, said Sgt. Mark Robinson a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
The break in the machete case came when Russell was arrested in connection with another crime Saturday night, involving an attempted armed robbery at a convenience store, followed by an attempted carjacking at a gas station, Robinson said.
Police would not say whether they found a machete. They do not know what the motive might have been for the attack.
A knife was used in the crimes Saturday night, Robinson said.

At this point, police do not think the suspect knew any of the victims, Robinson said.
Russell was arrested while driving a white Dodge Intrepid, believed to be the same car that was seen leaving the bus stop after the Monday machete attack, the police spokesman said.
