PHOENIX — More than 250 Arizona National Guard soldiers are expected to return home Sunday from a year in Afghanistan.
Members of the 1st Battalion, 158th Infantry Regiment known as the Bushmasters have been abroad since March 2007.
About 105 of them already came home Thursday.
Another 250 were expected to return Sunday. The remainder of the 600-member battalion are expected to return later in the week.
The soldiers were part of a group that left Arizona on Jan. 6, 2007 under Operation Enduring Freedom. It was the largest single-unit deployment of the Arizona National Guard since World War II.
Two of the battalion’s soldiers were killed in action. Another 24 were wounded during the tour.
