YUMA — A prosecutor with the Yuma County Attorney’s Office has been arrested on felony drug and weapon charges.
County Attorney Jon Smith says prosecutor Gregory Byrd was fired shortly after his arrest on Thursday afternoon by Yuma County sheriff’s deputies. Byrd suffers from multiple sclerosis and was on medical leave from his job.
Sheriff’s Capt. Eben Bratcher says he was booked into jail on charges of tampering with physical evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of dangerous drugs and misconduct with weapons.
Byrd had been a criminal prosecutor in Yuma since 2004.
Bratcher says his office received information about alleged drug use by Byrd last week and launched an investigation.
