A man who was severely burned in a house fire southwest of the city last week died Tuesday at the hospital.
Mark Heidt, 49, was rescued March 3 from inside his burning house in the 5500 block of South Meadowlark Avenue. He was taken to University of Arizona Medical Center, said Tracy Koslowski, a spokeswoman for Drexel Heights Fire District.
The neighborhood is south of West Nebraska Street and east of South Cardinal Avenue.
Deputy Keith Barnes of the Pima County Sheriff's Department tried to open the security door before firefighers arrived and opened the door. Heidt was found by the back door, authorities said.
It took firefighters three minutes to bring the fire under control. The fire was contained to the living room, Koslowski said.
Smoke filled the home, and no smoke alarms were sounding, she said.
