2 receive minor injuries battling Marana trailer blaze
A fire at an abandoned mobile home in Marana, Ariz., left two people — one of them a firefighter— with minor injuries on the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013.
Just after 1 p.m. crews were called to a fire at an abandoned mobile home on West Warfield Circle, just off Interstate 10 in Marana.
The single-wide trailer was already 80 percent involved in fire when crews arrived six minutes after receiving the first 911 call, Capt. Adam Goldberg, spokesman for the Northwest Fire District, said in a news release.
"Based on information from neighbors that this home was an abandoned structure, crews began a defensive attack to stop the fire from spreading to neighboring homes," Goldberg said. "The fire was stopped within several feet of the house next door."
It took 26 firefighters 21 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
A neighbor was injured when he attempted to fight the fire prior to the arrival of the fire department. He suffered a minor injury and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment, Goldberg said.
A firefighter who received minor burns while battling the blaze, also was taken to the hospital.
The investigation is ongoing. The trailer is a total loss.
